LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team (3-4-3) returns home looking to jump start their offense, as they host the UNLV Rebel Classic on Friday and Sunday. The Rebels will meet Utah Valley State in the second game on Friday night at 7 pm, with Creighton and Northern Arizona kicking off at 4:30 pm. On Sunday, UNLV plays Creighton at Noon, while Utah Valley State and NAU play at 2:30 pm.
The Rebels are looking to break a two-game losing streak, and hoping to find their offense as they have scored just once in the last five games. Leading the team this year is Katie Carney with three goals, while Erica Frizzell (two goals, one assist) and Armani Rice (one goal, three assists) both have five points. In goal is Ciera Nero, and the freshman has a 0.93 GAA with 49 saves in 970 minutes of action.
Utah Valley State brings a 3-5 record into Friday's game, though they are 0-3 on the road this year. The Wolverines broke a two-game losing streak in their last outing with a 2-1 overtime victory over Portland State. Jenni Wright has a team-high three goals this year, while Carolyn Theurer and Courtney Robbins both have two scores. Tasha Bell has seen the majority of time in goal, and is posting a 1.23 GAA with 16 saves in 513 minutes of action.
Creighton is currently 5-2-3, and are on a three-game unbeaten streak. Two players both have three goals (Kristine Willrett and Lindsay Vaught), while four more players have each scored twice this year for the Bluejays. Kristen Casey and Valerie Zimmerer have split the time in goal evenly, with Casey posting a 0.55 GAA while Zimmerer has a 0.96 GAA on the season.
