USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The UNLV volleyball team (14-6 overall, 5-3 Mountain West Conference) picked up its ninth sweep of the season with its 3-0 win on the road at Air Force (1-15, 0-8 MWC) on Saturday night. The victory closed out the first half of league play, as the team matched 2005's 5-3 record. The Rebels won by scores of 30-24, 30-21, 30-23.
After posting their lowest hitting percentage of the season against Colorado State Friday night, the Rebels rebounded with a .302 effort against the Falcons. UNLV's hitting numbers improved from the start, as the team hit .150 in the first, .389 in the second and .400 in the final frame.
The Falcons, on the other hand, were held to a paltry .052 in their three stanzas. Their attackers hit above the .100 mark only once with a .163 in the third. They hit .023 in the first and -.071 in the second.
Lauren Miramontes led the Rebels with a team-high 10 kills and chipped in four blocks (one solo), as well. Miramontes was one of five attackers to hit above the .294 percentage for UNLV. Erin Greenwood hit a team-best .467 with eight kills. Michelle Banks threw down six kills, while hitting at a .429 clip. Brittani Lumsden (.375) and Jessica Walters (.294) rounded out those with high numbers.
Melody Nua dished out 22 assists to lead the squad, while Kristin Koochi had 16. Jada Walker tallied double-digits in digs with 10.
Katie Batchelder amassed a match-high 14 kills, while hitting .333 for the Falcons. Kim Kallabis led her team with 20 assists, while Ellen Bina notched 11 digs.
The Rebels stay on the road for another weekend as the squad heads to Utah for matches against the BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes. UNLV plays in Provo against BYU on Oct. 20 at 6:00 p.m. PST and in Salt Lake City against Utah on Oct. 21 at 3:00 p.m. PST.
