First Serve: The Rebels (14-8 overall, 5-5 MWC) got off to a rough start for their second-half of the Mountain West Conference season with losses at then-No. 18 BYU and then No. 10 Utah. After being on the road for four straight matches and six of its last seven, UNLV returns home this weekend with contests against TCU (Oct. 27) and New Mexico (Oct. 28). The Rebels have six regular season matches remaining in 2006 with four of those being held in the Cox Pavilion.

UNLV at BYU & Utah Revisited: BYU - The UNLV volleyball team was swept by the then-18th ranked BYU Cougars in Provo, Utah on Oct. 20. The Cougars won with scores of 30-27, 30-24, 30-23.
The Rebels were out hit .285 to .168 and tallied 14-less kills than their hosts (40-to-54). UNLV hit as low as .086 in the third and as high as .209 in the second, while BYU hit its highest (.333) in the second and its lowest (.222) in the first.
UNLV picked up double-doubles from Michelle Banks (10 kills, 10 digs) and Melody Nua (17 assists, 13 digs). Maria Aladjova chipped in 10 kills, as well. Kristin Koochi dished out 13 assists.
Utah - The UNLV volleyball team suffered the same fateas it had the night before with a 3-0 sweep by the then-10th ranked Utah Utes in Salt Lake City. The Utes won with scores of 30-25, 30-24, 30-27.
The Utes out hit the Rebels .260 to .139, while throwing down five more kills (52-to-47). UNLV hit between .132 and .150 in its three matches, while Utah hit no worse than .205 and as high as .295.
Kristin Koochi was the lone Rebel to amass a double-double with 14 assists and 14 digs. Michelle Banks led the team in kills with 13 and was closely followed by Maria Aladjova's 12 and Lauren Miramontes' 10. Melody Nua had a team-high 21 assists, while Jada Walker led the squad with 19 digs.
