First Serve: The Rebels (16-8 overall, 7-5 MWC) carry a two-match winning streak with them to Laramie, Wyoming for a tustle with the Cowgirls of UW. UNLV picked up back-to-back wins last weekend over TCU (3-1) and New Mexico (3-0), which pushed them to 7-5 in league play. The match is the only one for UNLV this week, as Wyoming is 9-12 overall and is riding a win over Air Force that snapped a seven- match losing streak.

UNLV vs. TCU & New Mexico Revisited TCU - The UNLV volleyball team needed four games to dispatch of the pesky TCU Horned Frogs on Friday night in the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels received double-doubles from Maria Aladjova (19 kills, 12 digs) and Brittani Lumsden (19 kills, 14 digs), while Samantha Noland and Erin Greenwood chipped in 11 kills apiece. The offensive output helped UNLV snap a two-match losing streak with scores of 30-24, 30-25, 25-30, 30-26.
The Rebels hit .181 in the match to TCU's .216. Each team threw down 69 kills. UNLV hit for a game-high .314 in the first, but saw their hitting percentage drop in consecutive games. In the second frame they hit .145 and .075 in the third. They rallied for a .172 in the fourth. TCU, on the other hand, hit its best in the game-three win (.283), but hit worse than UNLV in the first (.192) and the fourth (.164). The second game was the only one that witnessed the losing squad out hit the winning one, as TCU hit .244 to UNLV's .145.
New Mexico - The UNLV volleyball team picked up its 16th win of 2006 with a 3-0 sweep over the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday night in the Cox Pavilion. The 16 wins are the second-most in the new era of Rebel volleyball since the program was brought back to life in 1996. The Rebels won the match with game-scores of 30-28, 30-17, 30-17.
The Rebels were led offensively by double-figure kill outings by Maria Aladjova and Brittani Lumsden. Aladjova notched a match-high 21 kills and has now led the team in that category on 14 occasions. She has also hit in double-digits in 20 of the squad's 23 matches. Lumsden pitched in with her 10 kills. Lauren Miramontes hit for a match-high .778 in hitting with seven kills on nine attempts with no errors.
UNLV racked up 53 kills, while hitting .296 in the match. The Rebels hit a lowly .096 in their first-game win, but turned the hitting around by connecting for a .471 in the second and .410 in the third. New Mexico's attackers only managed 35 kills, while hitting .067. The Lobos offense waned after the first game, as the team's hitting numbers dropped in each frame. In the first they hit .116, but fell to .068 in the second and even lower at .021 in the third.
