TEMPE, Ariz. - UNLV women's golf entered the second round of the PING/ASU Invitational in third place but fell down to eighth, shooting 27-strokes worse than their opening round yesterday on the par 72, 6,230-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course at Arizona State.
The Rebels have a team score of 607 (290-317, +31) after shooting 29-over a day after carding a team round of two-over. UCLA moved into the lead and has a team score of 577 (288-287, +1), host ASU is third at 581 (283-298, +5) and Texas A&M rounds out the top three with a 587 (294-293, +11).
In the race for medalist honors Ashley Knoll of Texas A&M is the clubhouse leader at four-under (70-70--140) and Tiffany Tavee of ASU (66-75--141) and Eileen Vargas of Pepperdine (69-72--141) are both tied for third at three-under.
Rebel freshman Da Sol Chung is in the top 20, currently tied for 16th at four-over 148 after she carded a second-round score of 76. Chung started the tournament with an even-par 72 on Friday. Joining her in the top 20 is Elena Kurokawa (70-79--149), who his tied for 19th at five-over par. Kurokawa began her second round tied for fifth, but after opening at two-under yesterday the senior was seven over par on Saturday.
Seema Sadekar (74-79--153, +9) is tied for 41st, Young Pak is tied for 70th (76-83--159, +11) and Grace Woo is tied for 78th (74-87--161, +17). Kasi Lee (76-83--159, +11), a freshman transfer, is in the group with Pak that is tied for 70th as well.
