The Last Time Out: The Rebels lost both of their games this past weekend in San Diego, Calif., to the San Diego State Aztecs. Game one was a tight affair that went down to the wire as SDSU was able to plate the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 final. The second game went the way of the home team early, as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead, before UNLV put two runs on the board for a 5-2 final score.
In game one, the game remained scoreless until SDSU broke the ice in the third inning. The Aztecs added another run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Rebels evened the score at 2-2 in the sixth on a two-run home run by Shannon Crisp. With Maggie Livreri on first base due to a base-on-balls, Crisp connected for an opposite field shot.
The game remained 2-2 until the bottom of the seventh when Becky McDonald issued a leadoff walk. The runner was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A single to center was enough to get the runner home, as she slid in underneath the play at the plate.
In game two, the Aztecs pushed three runs across in the second and added single runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-0 lead.
UNLV had seven hits in the game, but couldn't connect on a scoring opportunity until Sandy Nakamura came up to the plate in a pinch-hitting role in the seventh. Nakamura promptly took the offering over the right field fence to cut the deficit to three runs at 5-2. Unfortunately, that is how the game ended.
