AUBURN, Wash - The No. 15 ranked UNLV women's golf team rebounded on Friday and is currently in seventh place at the NCAA West Regional, being played at Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Wash.
The top eight teams and the top three individuals on non-qualifying teams from the three regionals (West, Central and East) advance to the NCAA Championships, played at the Scarlet Course at Ohio State on May 23-26.
Purdue has the lead heading into Saturday's final round, as the Boilermakers have a team score of 583 (289-294, +7) after they started play on Friday a shot back of UCLA and Washington, who shared the first-round lead. Both of them are tied for second with a two-round total of 591 (+15).
Paige MacKenzie of Washington finished her second round with a seven-stroke lead in the chase for medalist honors, as she carded her second-straight sub-par round and has a seven-under total of 137 (68-69). She is seven strokes ahead of a group of three who are tied for second at even-par 144 for the tournament.
After a difficult opening round in which the Rebels finished tied for 10th, they had a solid second day to move up the leader board on Friday and have a two-round total of 605 (304-301, +29) in the program's fourth-straight regional appearance.
Leading the way for the Rebels is freshman Da Sol Chung, who is tied for seventh overall. The reigning MWC Player of the Year, Chung carded a two-over 74 on Friday for a two-day total of 147 (+3) after she opened with a one-over 73.
Elena Kurokawa had the best round of the day for the Rebels, shooting even-par on the day to move up into a tie for 16th with a two-round total of 149 (+5) on the par-72, 6,289-yard course.
Seema Sadekar (74-79--153, +9) is tied for 41st, Grace Woo (81-76--157, +13) is tied for 61st and Young Pak (80-79--159, +15) is tied for 75th to round out the Rebels.
