Men's Golf

All-Region Teams Announced

May 31, 2006

LAS VEGAS - Two UNLV men's golfers were named to the PING All-Pacific Region team as the Golf Coaches Association of America handed out its annual awards on Wednesday.

Senior Andres Gonzales and sophomore Jarred Texter were UNLV's two representatives selected to the Pacific Region squad.

Each of the nine PING All-Region teams were comprised of 15 golfers and any player ranked in the top 75 nationally in either Golfstat or the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Members of the all-region teams are now eligible for PING All-America honors.

This marks the second straight year making the all-region team for Gonzales, who was a semifinalist for the 2006 Ben Hogan Award and leads the Rebels in scoring average with 71.94 strokes per round. He has competed in 11 tournaments this season (prior to the NCAA Championships) and has recorded three top-five finishes and a total of five top-10s. He earned individual medalist honors at the William H. Tucker Invitational to open the season in September. Gonzales has recorded 22 rounds of par or better golf with 14 of those rounds coming at under par.

Texter is second on UNLV in scoring average with 72.36 and has also appeared in 11 events. He has two top-five finishes and a total of three top-10s with his best finishes of the season coming at the Tucker (second) and at the NCAA East Regional (tie for second). He has turned in 20 rounds of par or better golf, also with 14 of those rounds being under par.
