LARAMIE, Wyo. - For the second straight day the UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving team pulled off a split, but this time the Rebel men (5-2, 4-1) came out on top, 153-147, while the women (3-4, 3-3) fell to the Cowgirls 167-133 on Saturday afternoon.

Despite winning nine of the first 14 events, UNLV trailed on the men's side by 10 with two events to go. But the Rebels would rally for the win, thanks to a one-two finish in the 200 IM from Devin Phillips and Tamas Bosnyak. UNLV then sealed the win with by claiming first in the 400 free relay, off the team of Richard Hortness, Johan Claar, Magnus Egmar, and Brandon Nelms.

Four Rebels were double-event winners for the day. Claar won both the 500 and 1000 freestyles, Jonas Andersson in the 100 and 200 breast, Nelms in the 50 and 100 free, and Phillips in the 200 IM and 200 back. Tiger Christian won the 100 back, and UNLV also won the 400 medley relay, with a team made up of Phillips, Andersson, Christian, and Nelms.

On the women's side, UNLV won half of the events, but couldn't overcome the Cowgirls' depth in their home pool. The Rebels had two double-ever winners, Amanda Weinbrecht in the 100 back and 200 back, and Bailey Kuestermeyer in the 200 breast and 200 IM. Single-event winners were Katie Wronn in the 100 free, Marina Sandback in the 50 free, and Marva Harpak in the 200 free. The Rebels also claimed the 400 free relay, thanks to Wronn, Amber Walker, Lauren Browning, and Sandback.

Both teams will be in action next week, taking on UC Santa Barbara and the Colorado State women in a tri-meet on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Noon at Buchanan Natatorium.
