LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball will conclude its fall workout program with the Scarlet-Gray World Series, a five-game set that begins this Friday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. (PT) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Thomas Whitsett will take the mound for the Gray squad, which is being coached by new assistant coach Mike Kirby. The Scarlet, under the direction of Matt Fonteno, will counter with Marc Baca.
Game two will be Saturday at 12:05 p.m. with Stephen Singer getting the start for the Gray against Matt Hutchison for the Scarlet. Game three will be Tuesday at 3:05 p.m. and features Steve Renaudo pitching for the Gray against Corey Hales for the Scarlet. Game four will be next Friday and game five next Saturday afternoon at 12:05 p.m.
"I am very excited by the opportunity to provide a competitive environment for our team," UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith said. "The guys are looking forward to playing against each other and it is a culmination of a lot of hard work put in during the fall."
The notables on the Gray team include Michael Brenly, Adam Moser, Rance Roundy Xavier Scruggs and Kyle Kretchmer. Key members of the Scarlet team are Drew Beaurlein, Sam Pavlisick and Jesse Wight, just to name a few.
All five games will be played and the winning team will be determined based on a points system over the entire length of the series.
Every game of the Scarlet-Gray World Series is free for the public to attend.
