Women's Preview:
The UNLV women's swim team looks to continue their fine swimming as of late this weekend in the UNLV Winter Invite. Kim Bonney paces the Rebels as their best swimmer so far this season, earning MWC honors for her work at the Texas Invite. Bonney owns the MWC's top times in both the 100 and 200 breast stroke to date.
Marina Sandback and Bailey Kuestermeyer continue their consistant success as they have both scored well in all of UNLV's meets. Sandback holds the MWC's best times in the 50 and 100 free, while Kuestermeyer holds top-six conference times in six different events.
Megan Hunt-Higgins holds top-five times in the sprint free events, while Marva Harpak sports the conference's best time in the 200 free. Freshman Lisa Gillespie is atop the 200 back and 200 IM time lists, with Amanda Weinbrecht is top-three in both backstroke swims. The 200 and 400 medley and free relay squads all sport the Mountain West's best time.
Men's Preview: The Rebel men come into the UNLV Winter Invite winners of their last two dual meets, narrowly defeating the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, Texas in their last meet. The Rebels also finished 10th at the prestigious Texas Invite. UNLV is getting great swims from a group of newcomers in Kier Maitland, Peter Lorring and David Seiler. All three have made an impact in their first season as Rebels, and if UNLV wants to defend their MWC title for a third straight year, they among will be most important.
Returners Johan Claar, Richard Hortness and Jonas Andersson are among the best swimmers in the nation, and will be counted on for consistant production.
Also make sure to look for John Mendoza, Tomas Boysnak and Devin Phillips. On the boards for the Rebels, Vincent English and Eli Tanimoto are names to watch for.
