LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team is ranked ninth in the country in the very first Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll, which was released Wednesday.
The poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and is based on the selections of 20 men's coaches from across the country.
Florida, previously No. 2 in Golf World's last college coaches' poll of 2006, has claimed the top spot from Alabama. Stanford is No. 2 and is followed by Oklahoma State, Alabama and Georgia.
Coastal Carolina is sixth, while UCLA is seventh, USC is eighth, UNLV is ninth and Clemson rounds out the top 10.
UNLV began play at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii on Wednesday. The tournament runs through Friday.
