Final Stats

LAS VEGAS - UNLV baseball fell behind early and could not generate a lot of offense in losing 9-3 to No. 17 Arizona on Saturday in front of 562 fans at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

UNLV got just nine hits and committed three errors in falling to 7-8, with starter Chris Saddoris (0-2) taking loss, giving up five runs, four earned, in 4.2 innings of work. UA improved to 11-2 with Brad Mills (3-1) picking up the win as he worked six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out seven.

The Rebels tied the scored at one in the bottom of the second when Willie Bowman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with two outs. Senior outfielder Calvin Beamon could not prolong the inning though as he popped out to first to end the threat.

Following a scoreless third, the Wildcats scored the next seven runs of the game to go up 8-1 after the top of the seventh, putting the Rebels in a deep hole they could not get out of. Arizona scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth and then added three more in the seventh.

UNLV scored twice in the bottom of the frame to pull within 8-3, with Rance Roundy hitting an RBI single and then later scoring on an error. UA added a run in the top of the eighth to cap the scoring.

Ryan Kowalski had three hits for the Rebels and Roundy added a pair of his own. The Wildcats were led by Dwight Childs, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

UNLV and Arizona wrap up their series tomorrow with Sunday's first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. (PST) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
