LAS VEGAS - The 40th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team posted its fourth consecutive 7-0 shutout, this time over UC Riverside on a beautiful Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In action for the first time in 12 days, the Lady Rebels did not lose a set while improving to 4-0 while the Highlanders fell to 2-2 on the young season.
UNLV began the morning by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. In singles play, All-American Elena Gantcheva defeated Erynne Oki at the top spot 6-4, 6-3 to notch her fifth straight victory.
Kristina Nedeltcheva won 6-2, 6-2 over H.R. Espiritu at No. 2; senior Claire Smith moved up in the lineup and got by Donna McCullough 7-6, 6-1 at No. 3 to improve to 9-2 overall; Linda Tempelfelde downed Yasaman Sakhakorn 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4; freshman Alisa Razina improved to 4-0 in her career with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Roxanne Plant at No. 5; and Sharon Marin made her season debut by blanking Alexandra Khoury 6-0, 6-0 on court six.
The Lady Rebels next host Southern Utah on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
