Rebels Eighth In Latest Coaches' Poll

March 14, 2007

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team is ranked eighth in the country in the second Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll of the spring, which was released Wednesday.

The poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and is based on the selections of 20 men's coaches from across the country.

Stanford, previously ranked number two, has claimed the top spot from Florida. The Cardinal, who hadn't won a tournament since the fall of 2000, have already won five tournaments this season.

Rounding out the top five are: Florida (No. 2), Georgia (No. 3), Oklahoma State (No. 4) and Alabama (No. 5). BYU (No. 9) enters the top ten for the first time after being ranked No. 13 in the previous poll. Clemson is sixth, USC is seventh, followed by UNLV, BYU and UCLA. The Rebels were ninth in the first edition of the poll.

UNLV finished fourth as host of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship last week and will be back in action on March 26-27 at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
