TUCSON, Ariz. - UNLV sophomore Seung-Su Han fired an opening-round 6-under-par 65 on Thursday to take the early lead at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championship being played at the Catalina Course at Tucson National (par 71, 7,136 yards).
Han is followed by BYU's Clay Ogden in second place at 5-under 66, while San Diego State's Adam Porzak is two shots back in third place at 4-under. There is a four-way tie for fourth place at 3-under 68, which includes Rebel junior C.J. Gatto.
Han's round consisted of a bogey at the second hole, which was followed by three consecutive birdies on holes 3-5. He bogeyed No. 8, but on the back nine he was an impressive 5-under with no bogeys. He birdied the 12th and 13th holes, eagled No. 15 and birdied No. 17.
BYU is the team leader after the first round of play at 12-under 272 and is followed by No. 5 UNLV in second at 9-under. BYU's score of 272 is a MWC Championship first-round record, eclipsing New Mexico's mark of 276 during the first round in 2003. San Diego State is third at 2-under, followed by TCU at even-par and Colorado State at 3-over 287. New Mexico is sixth at 5-over, followed by Air Force at 14-over and Utah and Wyoming are tied for eighth at 15-over.
This year marks the first in the eight-year history of the MWC Championship that all nine teams carded sub-300 scores in a single round.

Play will continue with 18 holes on Friday and conclude with 18 on Saturday. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. PT each day.
