LAS VEGAS - After a strong performance in Arizona, the UNLV track team heads to Seattle for a two-day meet at the Washington Invitational which features six top-25 teams.
The meet begins Friday with the pentathlon and heptathlon with the rest of the meet taking place Saturday and the Rebels will compete against host-school Washington, 21st-ranked Arizona, and 13th-ranked Baylor, among others. Also present will be Pac-10 teams, including Stanford and Oregon. This is the second meet of the indoor season for the team as they look to build off of the positive momentum set at the Lumberjack Invitational.
"There is quality competition in Oregon, Washington, Southern Utah, and Arizona, so this is an opportunity for the team to step up," said Yvonne Scott-Williams.
Rebel student-athletes to watch for include Lekeisha Lawson in the 50 and the 200 meters and Charlotte Browning, who looks to make her first appearance of the indoor season in the mile. The Rebels also should do well in the short sprints and as well as improve their performances in the long jump.
"This is an opportunity to set up, improve, and get good results as a team," says Scott-Williams.
The Rebels begin competition on Saturday with the first field event starting at 8:30 a.m. (PT) and the first running event beginning at 9:00 a.m. (PT). The final event of the day is scheduled for 4:55 p.m. and it is the men's 4x400 meter relay.
