UNLV-Wyoming Postgame Notes

Nov. 13, 2008

Recap | Final Stats | Quotes

-UNLV's 22-14 victory meant the Rebels finished 4-3 at home to post their first winning record at Sam Boyd Stadium since going 6-0 in 2000.

-With one game remaining, UNLV already has more wins (five) than the last two seasons combined (four).

-The Rebels won the turnover battle 3-0 vs. Wyoming. It marked the fifth game this season that UNLV had zero turnovers. UNLV came into the week tied for sixth in the nation with only 10 giveaways.

-UNLV got two interceptions in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. The Rebels now have four picks in the last two games after going 26 quarters with no interceptions. Senior Rusty Worthen got the first one, the first of his career, while sophomore Quinton Pointer later hauled in his second of the season. He became the first Rebel this fall to have more than one pick.

-UNLV's 16 seniors were honored in ceremonies before kickoff. The class included the final three fifth-year players who began their career under former head coach John Robinson: WR Casey Flair, OL Mario Jeberaeel and RB David Peeples.

-Mike Clausen made his second career start in place of injured QB Omar Clayton.

-Kyle Watson's 38-yard field goal to open the scoring in the first quarter was a career long for the junior. However, the former Texas Southern transfer then missed a 45-yard attempt later in the quarter for his first miss as a Rebel. He then booted a 36-yarder and a 38-yarder in the second quarter to make him the first Rebel to kick three field goals in a game since Sergio Aguayo made all three of his attempts in the win at Utah State to open the 2007 season. Watson is now 7-8 on the season in field goals and 32-32 in PATs.

-The Rebels went 4-4 in the red zone vs. the Cowboys, including two touchdowns. That improved the team to 34-36 on the year, including 28 TDs. Last year UNLV ranked last in the MWC with only 15 red-zone TDs in 37 total trips.

-With his four catches, senior WR Casey Flair extended his school-record streak for games with a catch to 46 (every game of his career), which ties for first in the nation with Jarett Dillard of Rice, who will look to move his string to 47 on Saturday. The school's all-time leading pass catcher now has 199 while teammate Ryan Wolfe is just one behind at 198 with a season still to go.

-Junior WR Ryan Wolfe moved past Damon Williams (2,558 yards from 1995-98) into second place on UNLV's career receiving yards list with 2,591. He is just 13 yards behind all-time leader Earvin Johnson, who had 2,604 yards from 2001-04.

-UNLV senior RB Frank Summers scored his 10th touchdown (eight rushing and two receiving) of the season in the fourth quarter to give his team a15-14 lead. The "Tank" now has 20 career scores in 23 games as a Rebel.

-Junior LB Jason Beauchamp, who ranked second in the nation in tackles coming into the game, recorded seven stops, which broke his six-game streak of reaching double figures.
