LAS VEGAS - UNLV head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger announced Friday that freshman center Beas Hamga requested and was granted his release from the Runnin' Rebel program.
Hamga, who joined the team in the fall of 2007, sat out the 2007-08 season after the NCAA granted him qualifier status with a restriction. The 2007-08 season became his redshirt year and as a freshman this season, Hamga appeared in five of UNLV's nine games. He averaged 5.2 minutes played per game, scored five points on the year and tallied four rebounds and two blocked shots.
"We wish Beas the best," Kruger said. "His attitude and work ethic have been outstanding and because of that, we think he will develop into a very good player."
Hamga, who is originally from Douala, Cameroon, came to UNLV from Decatur (Ill.) Christian School.
