Looking to Finish Strong

Feb. 27, 2008

LAS VEGAS - With the final indoor meet upon us, the UNLV track team heads to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Mountain West Indoor Championship.

On Friday and Saturday the UNLV student-athletes will compete in the Mountain West Championship. The Rebels are on the road to improving and look at this indoor championship meet as an opportunity to show their improvement and as a chance to demonstrate their depth as a team.

The performances to look for are Lekeisha Lawson in the 60 and 200-meter races. Monique Humphries in the weight throw and the shot put and Charlotte Browning in the one mile run.

Also look for a surprise performance from Claire Schreiner who is competing for the first time in the pentathlon. On Schreiner surprise performance, head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams says,

"This is what it is all about stepping out of the routine for the team and doing what it takes to get production. We want a chance to go out and compete as a team and to show our depth."

Scott-Williams goes on to say that the student-athletes will use this meet as a chance to improve and then look towards the outdoor season in which they hope to show the results of their improvement.

The first meet of the outdoor season begins March 8 with the UNLV Collegiate Classic which takes place at the Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr Smith Field. The first field event starts at 8:30 am and the first running event starts at 9:30 am. The meet concludes at 3:15 with the men's 4x4 relay.
