LAS VEGAS - Team Scarlet used a strong pitching performance from Michael Goodman and timely hitting to earn a 3-1 win over Team Gray as part of a day of baseball at Earl E. Wilson Stadium that also featured the UNLV Alumni game.

Rebel senior Braden Walker hit a one-out triple in the bottom of the fifth and then scored on Joe DiMaggio's double to left center for the first run of the game. The lead grew to two as DiMaggio moved to third on a fly out and then scored on a bunt single by Al McCormick.

Goodman earned the win, working five innings and giving up no runs on three hits while striking out two. Adam Moser worked a scoreless seventh to earn the save. Gray starter Matt Hutchison gave up the two runs in the fifth to take the loss, the only blemishes on a solid five-inning outing that saw him give up those two runs on three hits.

Gray got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Scott Berke scored on a double by Jesse Wight. Scarlet capped the scoring in the bottom half of the frame when Rance Roundy singled in Jay Sferra, who had doubled earlier in the inning.

In the Alumni Game, no less than 35 former Rebels suited up and played a five-inning contest that ended in a 6-2 decision.

This season's Rebels open their regular season on Feb. 22 at home against Central Michigan, the first of a trio of opponents that will make early visits to Earl E. Wilson Stadium as head coach Buddy Gouldsmith begins his fifth year at the helm.

Season and individual tickets for UNLV's home baseball games are currently on sale and the Rebels' home slate features 29 home games, including eight in a row at Earl E. Wilson Stadium to open up the 2008 season.
