Leading Off: The UNLV Rebel softball team gets back out on the road with five games scheduled between Thursday, April 17 and Sunday, April 20. The team continues its 13-game road trip with a single contest scheduled for Thursday evening (5:00 pm MT/4:00 pm PT) at Northern Colorado followed by Mountain West Conference games against Colorado State and New Mexico.
On Deck: Following the trip to the Rocky Mountain Range, the Rebels stay out on the road with its Beehive State swing set for April 24-26. UNLV will play a doubleheader at Utah on April 24 and then will battle BYU on April 25/26.
Rebels On The Small Screen: The Rebels will be making four appearances on television in 2008. The Mountain West Conference announced this year's schedule and the Rebels will have their road games at Colorado State and BYU aired live and tape-delayed.
UNLV will play a doubleheader at CSU on Friday, April 18. Game one is scheduled for 1:30 pm MT/12:30 pm PT on The Mtn. (Cox Digital 334) and the second game will commence 20-30 minutes later. Both games will be re-aired on CBS College Sports TV (Cox Digital 333), formerly CSTV, on Monday, April 21 with the first game slated for 12:00 pm PT.
The Rebels' two-game set in Provo, Utah, vs. BYU will be shown on multiple occasions. The first game of the series on Friday, April 25, is set for 6:00 pm PT on BYU-TV (Cox Digital 352). The game on Saturday, April 26, will be shown at 1:00 pm PT on BYU-TV. Both games will be re-aired on The Mtn. on Saturday , April 26 (game one) at 11:00 am PT and Sunday, April 27 (game two) at noon PT.
Rebels Honored For Academics: On Tuesday, April 15, the 29th Annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon was hosted by the UNLV Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Student-Athlete Academic Services.
A total of 134 student-athletes were honored for achieving GPAs of 3.0 or higher and recognized as MWC and Mountain West Sports Federation (men's soccer) Academic All-Conference recipients. Honorees also must have completed one academic semester at UNLV and have competed in 50 percent of the team's contests.
The UNLV Softball team had 14 student-athletes earn all-conference recognition and they were: Bri Bri Bernardi, Brittany Bolinger, Stephanie Bregante, Laura Briones, Kendall Fearn, Brittany Freight, Jaci Hull, Annika Lindberg, Brittany Meade, Jenn Newman, Marissa Nichols, Rosa Ordaz, Caitlyn Paus and Christie Robinson.
There were 29 student-athletes recognized for being named to the MWC's Scholar-Athlete Award list for having a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater in at least two semesters at UNLV.
Three softball members were named to the MWC's Scholar-Athlete Award list and they were: Bolinger, Hull and Paus.
Nichols was named Softball's Top Sports Award for having the highest cumulative GPA on the squad.
