REBEL CAMP 2008 - UNLV went through 18 five-minute periods in full pads on a cool, windy Tuesday morning, bringing to a close the team's off-site camp.
Rebel head coach Mike Sanford brought his team 240 miles north of Las Vegas to the old mining town of Ely, Nev., for the third straight year. UNLV took advantage of cooler weather to practice at normal times while also bonding together as a team over 11 days.
"I feel really good about camp," Sanford said. "We came out close to injury free, minus Quinton Pointer, which happened early in camp, and we are a better football team than when we got here."
Now the Rebels will turn their focus to the season opener at Sam Boyd Stadium against Utah State on Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 739-FANS or by going to www.unlvrebels.com.
FINAL PAIR OF BLACK JERSEY WINNERS
The final two Rebels who earned the Black Jersey for the final practice of fall camp were senior cornerback Geoffery Howard (San Diego, CA/Grossmont College) and junior wide receiver Rodelin Anthony (Immokalee, FL/Immokalee HS). It was the second time this camp that Howard earned the Black Jersey while it was the first for Anthony.
