Recap | Final Stats | Notes

Iowa State vs. UNLV September 20, 2008

Quotes from Coach Mike Sanford

"First of all I just want to say it's a great win. There are all the things you can analyze about it all the things you can say about the things we didn't do but the bottom line is the things we did do, first of all we won the first time in UNLV history beat two back to back BCS level teams. Second thing is the previous record in overtime was bad, I am not sure exactly what it was but it was bad, and we've won two overtime games. The third thing is that we showed great poise, great character, and great belief in overtime and made plays that we needed to make to win."

"I have got to give tremendous credit to Omar Clayton he played extremely well, had no interceptions. We did have one fumble tonight, which I don't like to point out the negatives but we did have one fumble. I think the fact that Frank Summers gained 109 yards, that's a tremendous positive. I've got Casey Flair made a lot of plays. Phillip Payne only had two catches, but he had one that was kind of important. I think that was a huge play. I am just very proud of our team. I am proud of us finding a way to win. "

"I thought our punt team; I've got to give tremendous credit to Dack Ishii. I thought Ishii was fantastic and made some huge punts. He did a tremendous job of field position."

"I think if people before the season would have said that we would be 3-1, I think they probably would have thought you were nuts. But there is a great thing about this team right now they care about each other, they love each other, they believe in each other, and they expect to win."

"First of all it was a tremendous play. And probably in retrospect we probably should have been doing that all game. But it happened at the right time and that was great that we did. We had some chances to throw the ball down the field and we didn't take advantage of them but we did on that one. Phillip Payne is just obviously as everyone knows is a tremendous player. And he makes plays and he goes and gets the ball."

"We are on our way to gain respect. I feel like that's two games but we are not done. We are one third of the way through the season, that's four games. We have in my mind the biggest game of our season next week. The game against Nevada, Reno is a huge game. We got to enjoy this for a little and put it behind us."
