Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebels (9-7) improved to 10-7 all-time in their series with the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack (5-8) on Sunday with a 3-1 victory in the Cox Pavilion. UNLV fell behind 1-0 after the first set, but rebounded to win the next three frames to extend its winning streak to three in the battle of Silver State universities. The Rebels won the match with set scores of 24-26, 25-23, 25-13, 25-18.
Coming into the match, UNLV's Melody Nua needed 12 assists to surpass Nicki King's (2001-04) career tally of 4,261. Nua managed to dish out the record-setting assist at the 2-2 mark of the second set on a kill by Erin Greenwood. Nua ended the contest with a match-high 46 assists to give her 4,296 for her career.
Nua wound up picking up her sixth double-double of the season and 33rd of her career, as she combined her 43 assists with 13 digs.
Leah Maurer and Kelsey Keeler were the top attackers for the Rebels, as they contributed 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Maurer hit an astonishing .448 for the match with only two errors in 29 swings.
Camille Cunningham led the way defensively with her 17 digs. Cunningham and Nua were joined in the double-digit dig output category by Gerryn Moran, who pitched in 11 stops of her own.
UNLV out-hit UNR .248 to .141 and racked up 18 more kills (60-to-42) in the match. Both squads registered 23 errors, while the Rebels took 14 more swings (149-to-135). The Wolf Pack hit better in the first two sets of the match, but was only able to come away with one win in those sets. UNR's best hitting efficiency came in the second set with its .235 tally, but it wasn't good enough, as UNLV took the frame. After going to intermission, the Rebels came out on fire and hit .400 and .355 in the final two stanzas. UNR, on the other hand, didn't come out of the gate so well at the half and hit -.033.
The Wolf Pack was led offensively by 14 kills from Kylie Harrington. Sonnie Sei pitched in a team-high 36 assists, while Nicole Link chipped in 19 digs.
UNLV will close out its four-match home stand on Friday, Oct. 3, with a Mountain West Conference affair with the San Diego Aztecs. The teams will serve it up at 7:00 pm in the Cox Pavilion.
