Women's Swimming & Diving

Senior Day Saturday

Jan. 30, 2009

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have their Senior Day meet on Saturday, as the Rebels will host the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara at 11 am in Buchanan Natatorium.

Saturday will be the final home meet for four UNLV swimmers. Jeff Ellingsen, a native of Henderson, Nev., is a four-year member of the Rebels and has a total of three top-eight finishes at the Mountain West Conference Championship meet in his career. Also from the men's team is Peter Lorring from Reno, Nev., who rejoined the UNLV squad in 2007-08 after a two-year absence, and made a strong impact with a fourth and fifth place swim at the conference meet last year.

On the women's side are a pair of swimmers who combined rank on eight of the top-10 lists at UNLV. Both also have one individual MWC title to their credit, as Bailey Kuestermeyer, a native of Puyallup, Wash., won the 200 breast in the 2007 championships, while Amanda Weinbrecht of San Diego, Calif., won the 200 back in last year's conference championships.

The UNLV men have had a very succesful year, with a 10-1 record and a perfect 5-0 mark in MWC action. The UNLV women meanwhile have started to come on strong as of late, and have won four straight meets to improve to 10-5 overall, 4-3 in the MWC.
