FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The UNLV women's track and field team had a strong outing Friday and Saturday at the Mountain T Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Rebels had 16 women finish in the top ten throughout the meet.
Lekeisha Lawson placed third and turned in a personal best in the 60 meter with a time of 7.51, beating her personal best set two weeks ago of 7.53. Lawson also set another personal best running in the 200 meter with a time of 24.70, taking second.
Senior Jennifer Shearer won the 3000 meter with a time of 10:52.24. Shearer also was able to win the 1 mile run open with a time of 5:18.93. Isabelle Stoate had a fourth place finish in the 1 mile invitational with a time of 5:22.97.
"We were pleased that there were major improvements in all the event areas. It's just another step in the right direction and our plan is to continue to move forward," head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams said. "We still have a lot of work to do so it's important for the team to know we have to keep working hard."
Other Rebels that had strong performances were Deja Edwards who placed second in the long jump open with a mark of 19'1.25". Amanda Bingson was able to set personal best records in the shot put, 41'2" and weight throw 51'11.75". UNLV took third in the 4x400 meter relay which consisted of Christine Lowe, Chauncey David-Jacobs, Lindsay Roach and Lekeisha Lawson.
UNLV will next travel to the Husky Invitational in Seattle Wash., on Feb. 14.
