LAS VEGAS - UNLV student and former track and field athlete Claire Schreiner was crowned Miss Wyoming USA at the state pageant held at the Natrona Country High School Auditorium in Casper, Wyo., at the end of September.
Schreiner, a native of Gillette, Wyo., is a fifth-year senior and is on pace to graduate this December with a degree in broadcast journalism. Schreiner was a high jumper for the Rebels the past three years, and the former transfer from South Dakota State lettered three times for UNLV.
"I am really excited to have won," Schreiner said. "This is something I have wanted since I was a little girl. Having the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas I think will be an advantage for me. I am looking forward to graduating in December and then concentrating on getting ready for Miss USA."
Schreiner graduated from Campbell County High School in 2005, where she earned all-conference honors in track and field, as well as being named an all-state gymnast four consecutive years.
The Miss Wyoming competition consisted of three proportional segments: evening gown, swimwear and interview. Unmarried women between the ages of 14 and 26 who are residents of Wyoming were eligible to compete for the title.
Schreiner will compete for the title of Miss USA 2010 on April 18, 2010, at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
