LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior leader Kristina Nedeltcheva will play in Sunday's singles championship match of the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships at the Stacy Darling Tennis Center.
Ranked 90th in the nation and second in this tournament, Nedeltcheva cruised through her semifinal match on Saturday vs. fourth-seeded Kristina Doerr of BYU, 6-2, 6-0, to advance.
In order to win her program's second-ever ITA singles title, Nedeltcheva will have to get past the event's top seed, 47th-ranked Pichittra Thongdach of Boise State. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the winner earning a spot in the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by Yale University November 5-8.
"Kristina turned in another amazing day on the courts," said UNLV head coach Kevin Cory. "She played a near-perfect singles match vs. a very talented opponent from BYU. Now she has another big challenge tomorrow so we're looking forward to it."
In doubles play on Saturday, Nedeltcheva and partner Jana Albers were eliminated by the second-seeded team of Thondach and Lauren Megale 8-6.
