Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - Arizona scored in seven of nine innings, including seven in the second and UNLV could not rally in losing 14-7 to the Wildcats in the first of a two-game set at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Rebels are now 3-2 on the season and starter Glenn DeWeese (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs, five earned, on six hits in just one inning of work. Arizona moved to 3-1 on the year with Matt Chaffee earning the win, as he got the last two outs of the fifth inning.
Arizona's big inning started with four extra-base hits, including a trio of doubles off of DeWeese, and overall the Wildcats used six hits to score their runs in the game-changing frame, jumping out to an early 8-0 lead.
The Rebels plated a trio of runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 12-7, but that would be as close as they would get in the game. During the mini rally, Anthony Morel and Trent Fuller had RBI hits in the fourth and Drew Beuerlein hit a bases-clearing double with the bases loaded in the fifth to score three more.
UNLV finished with 11 hits and committed a pair of errors while Arizona collected 19 base knocked and had one error in the field.
UNLV and Arizona conclude their two-game series tomorrow, with the first pitch from Earl E. Wilson set for 12:00 p.m. (PT).
