Final Stats

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UNLV baseball could not solve its road woes despite out-hitting Cal State Northridge, as the Rebels lost 9-4 to the Matadors on Wednesday night at Matador Field.

The game was tied at two heading into the bottom of the third but the Rebels could not get the lead in the final of a seven-game road trip, falling to 13-15 overall on the year. UNLV starter Kyle Conroy took the loss, giving up three runs, four earned in 2.2 innings of work. CSN moved to 13-14 on the year, with Paul Tremlin picking up the win, as he gave up two runs, one earned in three innings of work.

After the Matadors grabbed an early 2-0 lead, the Rebels answered by scoring two runs of their own in the top of the third inning to tie the game. With one out Chad Claus reached on an error and then J.J. Sferra singled, extending his hitting streak to 19 games. Bryan Resnick then laced a double, scoring both runners to knot the game at two.

CSN put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, but UNLV cut the lead to one, 4-3, in the top of the fourth when Trent Fuller singled in Rance Roundy, who singled to left to open the frame and moved to second on a wild pitch.

That would be as close as the Rebels would get in the game, as CSN scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to go up three, 6-3, and after the two teams traded runs in the sixth, the Matadors got a two-run home run in the eighth to put the game away.

UNLV collected nine hits in the game compared to seven for Cal State Northridge, while the Rebels committed two errors to one for the Matadors.

Resnick finished the game with a pair of hits to go along with his two RBI, and Sferra and Roundy each had two hits as well to pace the Rebels at the plate. Dominic D'Anna led the Matadors offensively, getting two hits, including the two-run home run in the eighth, and driving in four runs.

The Rebels return home and get back to Mountain West Conference action with a three-game series against Utah and the first game of the set from Earl E. Wilson Stadium is Friday at 7:00 p.m. It is the beginning of a 10-game homestand for UNLV, who will also play San Diego State and Northern Colorado over the next three weeks.
