LAS VEGAS - The Mountain West Conference Regular-Season Champion UNLV women's tennis team matched a program-record in the classroom as six of its players earned a spot on the 2009 Academic All-MWC Team, which was released this week.
The Lady Rebel contingent ranked second in the league, bested only by San Diego State's seven honorees.
Leading the way for UNLV was a three-time honoree, junior Alisa Razina, who boasted a 3.59 cumulative grade point average.
Also making repeat appearances were senior Katy Williams (3.58), junior Kristina Nedeltcheva (3.21) and sophomore Anna Maskaljun (3.40). The team was rounded out by sophomore Adrienn Hidvegi (3.18) and freshman Rumynana Terzieva (3.32) who both made their first appearance on the list.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor.
Head coach Kevin Cory's program also saw two players earning the additional honor of 2009 MWC Scholar-Athlete - Razina and Williams.
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
