Rebel Summer Update

Aug. 12, 2009

LAS VEGAS - Although the start of school is right around the corner, several UNLV baseball players are still currently playing in their respective summer leagues and performing well.

Rebel seniors Rance Roundy and Drew Beuerlein, who are playing for the Rochester (Wis.) Honkers, were each recently named to the Northwoods League Postseason All-Star team. Beuerlein has been a consistent offensive producer for the Honkers, scoring 32 runs and driving in 26 to go with a .273 batting average. Roundy has already set a club record and leads the league with 21 doubles, and he is hitting .313 and with 43 runs scored and 34 RBI. Rochester is currently in the Northwoods League North Divisional Series, where they have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

UNLV senior pitcher Matt Hutchison is playing for the Santa Barbara Foresters, who are competing in the 75th National Baseball Congress World Series, which is being play in Wichita, Kan. Hutchison has been near lights out coming out the bullpen, helping Santa Barbara earn the chance to defend its World Series title it won in 2008. Heading into the national tournament Hutchison had posted a league low 0.32 ERA in 28 innings of work, picking up six saves to go with a 2-2 overall record.

Recent Rebel signee Brady Zuniga, who finished his prep career at Bishop Amat High School in La Puente, Calif., was also named to the First Team Division III Team as a pitcher
