LAS VEGAS - Former UNLV running back and kick returner Dominique Dorsey (2001-04) rejoined his former Canadian Football League team on Tuesday after not surviving the final NFL cuts.
Dorsey, who was named the CFL's Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2008, left the Toronto Argonauts in the off-season and signed a free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins. The native of Tulare, Calif., did not make the final roster, however, and was not picked up by another team so he has headed back up north.
Dorsey is expected to provide a major boost to the Argos, who stand 3-7 heading into their game Saturday in British Columbia. The team has eight games remaining in 2009.
Despite missing five games due to injury, Dorsey ended last season as the CFL's all-purpose yards leader by nearly 150 yards. The 2007 and 2008 East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player was named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and CFL Special Teams Player of the Month twice. Dorsey became an Argo on July 23, 2007, after a previous stint with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The 5-foot-7 sparkplug is the last Rebel to have rushed for 1,000 yards in a season, going for a MWC-leading 1,261 as a senior in 2004. He also finished sixth all-time at UNLV with a kickoff return average of 23.4.
