LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior All-America candidate Ryan Wolfe's eight catches for 96 yards and a touchdown at Wyoming on Saturday improved his staggering career numbers enough to make him the leading ball catcher among all current NCAA FBS players.
The native of Santa Clarita, Calif., now has a school-record 240 receptions in his Rebel career, which is one more than Central Michigan senior Bryan Anderson. Wolfe's 3,119 yards are 81 ahead of the next best total of 3,038 by Naaman Roosevelt of Buffalo.
The graduate of Hart High School needs just 23 more catches to break J.R. Tolver's (San Diego State) all-time Mountain West Conference record of 262 (compiled from 1999-2002). Wolfe also needs 516 more yards through the air to break David Anderson's (Colorado State) league mark of 3,634 set from 2002-05.
Through four games this fall, Wolfe has 31 receptions for 384 yards, which ranks him 10th in the nation with 7.75 grabs a game and 23rd with 96.0 yards per contest. If he continued with the same averages through his senior campaign, the Rebel leader would become just the fifth player in FBS history to reach the 300-catch mark during a career.
One of college football's most versatile athletes, Wolfe this season has also rushed for 15 yards on three carries, returned two punts for 14 yards, totaled three tackles on kickoff coverage and recorded a pass breakup while contributing on his team's prevent defense.
UNLV travels to in-state rival Nevada, Reno on Saturday with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
