Lobo Challenge Complete Results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The UNLV women's track and field team had a strong, all-around meet at the Lobo Challenge on Friday evening, with Rebel student-athletes combining for 14 top-eight finishes at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
It was the first of two meets that the Rebels will compete at in Albuquerque, as they will turn around and get ready for Saturday's New Mexico Invitational. UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott was happy with her team's performance, especially considering the Rebels traveled to the meet today and it was their first time on this type of track, which is a 200-meter banked facility.
"Today's meet was definitely a shake out," Scott said. "After traveling early this morning and getting on this type of track for the first time, it was a great chance to shake out some of the kinks. We still have a lot of work to do but we are getting ready for the conference meet."
The Rebels saw a lot of success in the running lanes, with eight of those finishes coming on the track, paced by freshman Emily Blok who came in fourth in the 60 meters (7.68) and fifth in the 200 meters (25.14). Shahnel Woodley added a seventh place in the 60 meters with a time of 8.18 and Kelsey Williamson finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.06.
UNLV senior Candise Maxwell made her season debut in the 60-meter hurdles and finished fifth with a time of 8.98, while Erin Straughter finished eighth with a time of 9.76. Elsewhere on the track, Ali Motor finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.13 and Bailey Kuestermeyer came in sixth in the mile with a time of 5:10.09.
In the field events a trio of Rebels all finished in the top seven in the weight throw, led by sophomore Amanda Bingson, who came in second with a distance of 53-9.25. Danielle Rios finished sixth with a distance of 49-1.50 and LaShante Ellison came in seventh with a distance of 49-0.75. Deja Edwards finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 18-0.25 and right behind her was Davina Collins, who came in eight with a distance of 17-1.25. Rounding out the Rebels in the field was Stephanie Schafer, who finished eighth in the high jump, clearing 5-2.25.
Saturday's New Mexico Invitational kicks off at 7:00 a.m. with the women's long jump and the last event of the day is women's 4x400 meter relay at 1:30 p.m.
