LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team will play this week in Las Cruces, N.M., at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 25-26, at New Mexico State University Golf Course (par 72, 7,003 yards).
The 15-team field includes: Air Force, Boise State, Idaho, Illinois State, Kansas, Nebraska, host New Mexico State, Texas State, UNLV, Utah, UTEP, Washington State, Weber State, Western New Mexico and Wichita State. The 54-hole stroke-play event will consist of 36 holes (first and second rounds) on Monday and 18 holes (final round) on Tuesday. Play both days will begin with an 8 a.m. MT shotgun start.
Scheduled to compete for UNLV are: senior Jeremiah Wooding, juniors Derek Ernst and Colby Smith, and freshmen Blake Biddle and Karsten Majors.
UNLV is the defending champion of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, as the Rebels took the team title last year with a three-round score of 23-under-par 829, winning by eight strokes. Ernst tied for medalist honors with New Mexico State's Tim Madigan at 9-under 204, to win the tournament by one shot.
No live stats will be available for this tournament, but results will be distributed and posted to UNLVRebels.com after each day of competition. This will be UNLV's fourth tournament of the fall. The Rebels finished fifth in their last event - the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Alabama earlier this month.
