LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team will play its final tournament of the fall season this week in Dallas, Texas, at the third annual Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The tournament will be held Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 1-2, at Royal Oaks Country Club (par 71, 7,068 yards).
The 12-team field includes: Arkansas, host Baylor, Iowa, Lamar, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Penn State, SMU, Texas A&M and UNLV. Four of those teams are ranked in the top 20 of the latest Golfstat standings - No. 10 Arkansas, No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 17 Iowa and No. 19 Texas Tech. The 54-hole stroke-play event will begin with 36 holes on Monday (first and second rounds) and 18 holes (final round) on Tuesday. Monday will feature an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start, while tee times for Tuesday's play will be set and based on Monday's results.
UNLV will go with the same lineup it used in last week's Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in New Mexico: senior Jeremiah Wooding, juniors Derek Ernst and Colby Smith, and freshmen Blake Biddle and Karsten Majors.
Texas A&M is the defending Royal Oaks team champion, taking the 2009 title by three strokes over SMU at 4-under 848. SMU's James Kwon (6-under 207) was last year's individual medalist as he beat the field by two strokes. This year marks UNLV's first time participating in the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. This will be UNLV's fifth tournament of the fall. The Rebels have finished in the top five or better in three of their first four tournaments, with their best finish of second place coming last week at the Wimberly.
