Ernst 13th At All-America Classic

EL PASO, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's golfer Derek Ernst is tied for 13th after the first two rounds at the 2010 Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic, which were played Monday at El Paso Country Club (par 71, 6,864 yards).

Ernst, a junior, is one of just 15 golfers under par and has a 36-hole total of 1-under 141 after an opening-round score of 4-under 67, then a second-round 3-over 74. He is eight shots back of leader Tain Lee of Claremont Mudd Scripps, who is at 9-under 133 after rounds of 7-under 64 and 2-under 69. Alex Ching of San Diego is second at 8-under, while Mississippi's Jonathan Randolph is third at 7-under.

The field includes the 2010 U.S. Amateur champion (Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State), the 2010 NCAA champion (Scott Langley of Illinois) and the returning event champion (Hunter Hamrick of Alabama). The event is being advertised as having its deepest field ever.

The tournament, now in its 36th year, has a field of 32 of the nation's premier collegiate golfers, including seven of the top 11 amateur golfers in the world, according to the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings. Each university that has a golfer compete in the tournament is awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

The final round will be played Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. CST.
