LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field will make a return trip to Los Angeles this weekend, as the Rebels will compete in the annual Cal-Nevada Championships, which will be held at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA. While the majority of the team will participate at the Cal-Nevada Championships, the Rebels will also be sending distance runners to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
The two-day meet starts Saturday and concludes on Sunday, with all field events being held on the final of competition. Track events will have prelims on Saturday, with finals to follow on Sunday. A distance carnival will be held Saturday night with finals of the steeplechase, 5,000m and 10,000m.
Rebel student-athletes to watch include Shahnel Woodley and Emily Blok in the 100 and 200 meters, Kelsey Williamson and Chauncey David-Jacobs in the 400, Brett Zorich and Courtney Allen in the 800, Christine Lowe in the 400-meter hurdles and both relay teams. UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott also is expecting another strong performance from Amanda Bingson in the hammer throw a week after she broke her own school record in the weight throw.
"Our athletes should do well at this meet," Scott said. "It will be our first team scoring competition this outdoor season so it's a great opportunity for them to get the work in over a two-day meet."
Distance runners Bailey Kuestermeyer and Sarah Muniz will be competing in Stanford tonight, with Kuestermeyer running the 5,000 meters and Muniz the steeplechase. Muniz will be looking to improve on her school-record time she set at the season-opening UNLV Track Classic on March 6.
