WALNUT, Calif. - For the second straight day UNLV women's track and field saw a school record set at the Mt. SAC Relays, as sophomore Amanda Bingson broke her own mark in the hammer throw on Friday.
Bingson finished third overall with a throw of 193-1.00, which eclipsed her own record and marked the first time in UNLV history that a thrower had broken the 190-foot barrier. It also shattered her previous best of 183-5.00, which she set earlier this year.
Bingson's performance followed Rebel junior Sarah Muniz setting the Rebel record in the steeplechase the night before, and Bingson was part of a solid second day by the Rebels at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
"It's been a great meet so far," UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott said. "Two school records and several season-best marks means we are moving in the right direction as we get closer to championship season."
Senior hurdler Candise Maxwell ran a season-best time of 13.91 in the 100-meter hurdles for a ninth-place finish and she will run again in the Olympic development heat on Saturday. Chauncey David-Jacobs ran a time of 24.10 in the 200 meters to finish sixth overall and Kelsey Williamson finished just outside the top-10 in the 400 meters with a time of 56.17.
The 4x400 meter relay team won its heat with a quick time of 3:42.26, and that is the fastest time of any 1,600-meter relay team in the Mountain West Conference this season. The Rebel relay team was comprised of Emily Blok, David-Jacobs, Lindsay Roach and Williamson.
UNLV will close out competition at the Mt. SAC Relays tomorrow, and student-athletes that Scott expects strong performances from include Shahnel Woodley in the 100, Maxwell in the 100-meter hurdles and the 4x100 meter relay team consisting of David-Jacobs, Woodley, Maxwell and Blok.
The Rebels will also have distance runners Courtney Allen, Lucy Beuster, Samantha Swan, Lauren Petersen and Lexie Bravo competing in the Beach Invitational, which is Saturday in Cerritos, Calif.
