LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's tennis team matched a program-record in the classroom as six of its players earned a spot on the 2010 Academic All-MWC Team, which was released this week.
The Lady Rebel tied with three other schools for the league lead in honorees.
Pacing UNLV was a four-time honoree, senior Alisa Razina, who boasted a 3.65 cumulative grade point average.
The squad's only other senior, Kristina Nedeltcheva (3.38), made her third appearance on the list as did juniors Anna Maskaljun (3.54) and Adrienn Hidvegi (3.25). Sophomore Rumyana Terzieva (3.36) was a repeat honoree while junior transfer Jana Albers (3.35) rounded out the contingent.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor.
Head coach Kevin Cory's program also saw three players earning the additional honor of 2010 MWC Scholar-Athlete - Maskaljun, Razina and freshman Ella Bourchier (3.59 in biochemistry), .
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
