Thursday Brings (Slight) Break

Aug. 19, 2010

CAMP REBEL (UNLVRebels.com) - As Camp Rebel nears closing time, the UNLV football team earned a slight -- and rare -- break from a grueling schedule on Thursday.

When the Rebels completed their daily multi-period team drills and ran to the center of the practice field, instead of being sent out for a final session (called Fourth Quarter), head coach Bobby Hauck directed the team off the field to attack boxes of frozen treats.

"We cut a period and gave out Popsicles," Hauck said. "These last three days have been hard. It was not much of a bonus but it was something. It was good to hear them saying I'm turning soft -- that means they're coming along."

RIVAL PACKING FOR MWC

Hauck has been asked by the media here for his comments about all of the conference shuffling the last two days, largely to no avail. However, when asked about in-state rival Nevada, Reno joining UNLV in the Mountain West, Hauck was more than happy to talk about the potential for the annual Battle for the Fremont Cannon to become the end of the regular season for both sides.

"I may be a little presumptive here, but having it be our last game of the year would be great. If you don't have a historical and traditional rival in college football, you're missing something."

UP NEXT

The Rebels return for a final practice Friday afternoon before a camp-ending team scrimmage on Saturday morning. The players will then have Sunday off and not practice on Monday, which is the first day of classes at UNLV.
