LAS VEGAS - The UNLV football team finally got some real hitting in as the Rebels introduced shoulder pads into their practice uniform for Monday morning's session on campus.
The intensity level was clearly higher during the three-hour get-together staged in below-average temperatures at Rebel Park
"It was a good practice," said Head Coach Bobby Hauck. "It was good to be out here in pads and mix it up a little. We got to work on some technique."
The team will be back on the field in half-pads at 8 a.m. Tuesday and the practice is open to the public. UNLV will finally go full pads for the first time Wednesday evening when its stretch practicing off-campus begins.
KILGORE'S CAREER CLOSES
Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Thomas Kilgore's UNLV football career is over as it was announced that the Fresno, Calif., native has been medically disqualified. Kilgore underwent back surgery last year and the back will not allow him to suit up again. He will remain on scholarship but not count toward the team's maximum total of 85. Kilgore is a 2009 graduate of San Joaqin Memorial High School and was a three-year letterman for the Panthers.
