WOLCOTT, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team wrapped up second-round play at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in sixth place and just five shots off the lead with 18 holes left to play.
"The course was playing very difficult today," said first-year head coach Amy Bush. "The team did a great job of putting the ball in the right location to score and I am excited to see what tomorrow brings."
UC Davis and Arizona are tied for the team lead at 11-over par through two rounds while Virginia is just two shots back, Tulane and Denver are each five back and the Rebels just six shots out.
Senior Therese Koelbaek leads the field after shooting a 2-under round of 70, bringing her to 5-under overall through 36 holes. After a 1-over 37 on the first nine, Koelbaek heated up on the back, birdying 12, 13, 15 and 16 before bogeying the final hole to card a 33.
"Therese played wonderfully today," added Bush. "Watching her play like a true champion today was a pure joy; she has mapped out her plan and has stuck to it this week."
Alejandra Guacaneme turned in her second straight 3-over par 75, putting her in a tie for 22nd place heading into the final round. Teammates Katerina Prorokova and Kristen Schelling are both tied for 27th after shooting 5-over 77 for the day.
