NAMPA, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels track and field team performed well Friday on the first day of the Jacksons Invitational-New Balance West meet held at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center. UNLV had impressive efforts by Talyah Polee in the pentathlon and the Rebel quartet in the distance medley.
Polee was one of three Rebels participating in the pentathlon and finished fourth overall with a total score of 2,988 points, which ranks as the fifth-best effort in UNLV indoor track and field history. Her best event was the long jump with an distance of 17-09.75 (5.43m) followed by a third-place showing in the high jump with a tally of 5-00.25 (1.53m). She placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.54), sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:49.03 and seventh in the shot put with a distance of 25-02.50 (7.68m).
UNLV's distance medley squad of Laura Affeld, Christine Lowe, Brett Zorich and Ali Bartosch finished in fourth with a combined time of 12:40.40. The time ranks as the third-best recorded in program history.
Emily Blok ran the second-fastest time of the day in the 200 meters in 24.64, while Kelsey Williamson came in ninth at 25.29.
Deja Edwards and Davina Collins finished second and seventh, respectively, in the long jump with measured distances of 18-02.50 (5.55m) and 17-07.50 (5.37m).
Lauren Petersen placed third in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:26.84.
The Rebels return to action Saturday for the second and final day of the Jacksons Invitational-New Balance West meet.
