LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and swimming and diving teams continue their season as they take to the road this weekend to dual against Arizona on Friday at 1 pm and Arizona State on Saturday with an 11 am start.
The Rebel men (1-0) are coming off of a 197-91 win over CSU Bakersfield. Junior Cody Roberts was voted as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Week last week for his performance against the Roadrunners. Roberts won the 100 fly in 48.92, which is the sixth fasted time in the nation. He also posted a 50.52 in the back, which is the fastest time in the conference. Roberts was also instrumental in two more first place finishes in the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Senior Steven Nelms is sixth in the nation in the 50 free in 20.56 and leads the conference in the 100 free in 45.58. Freshman Joe Riggert is top in the conference in the 500 free in 4:40.50 and also in the 1000 free in 9:36.78. Sophomore David Szelle posted the top time in the MPSF in the 100 breast in 57.24. Freshman Balint Batka rounds out the top performers by posting a 1:51.96 in the 200 fly, which is also the top time in the conference.
On the women's side, the Rebels (0-1) look to get their first dual win of the season, as San Diego State beat them 171-124. Sophomore Rachel Dixon won the 50 free in 23.93, which is the fourth fastest time in the Mountain West. Freshman Jessica Marsh posted two victories in the 200 free in 1:50.87 and 500 free in 4:59.27, which is fast enough for the top time in the conference in both events. Junior Mariah Skeen posted the second best number in the conference in the 1-meter dive with 299.90
The Rebels will be on the road for the next six meets before returning to Buchanan Natatorium on December 17 for the UNLV Winter Invitational.
