Top UNLV Doubles Team Still Alive

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The UNLV doubles team of Lucia Batta and Aleksandra Josifoska is still alive in the qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.

In their opening match on Tuesday at the Riviera Tennis Club, Batta and Josifoska fought off two match points and won in a tiebreaker over 60th-ranked Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine of Louisville, 9-8 (7-1). The Lady Rebel duo moved on to Wednesday when it will face the draw's top seed, Sacramento State's 16th-ranked team of Rebecca Delgado and Tatsiana Kapshai.

Things did not go as well in singles play. Batta, ranked 95th, battled No. 27 Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama before finally falling 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Josifoska, ranked 117th, lost her match to No. 48 Sam Crister of Michigan 6-4, 6-2.
