PROVO, Utah - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet at BYU on Friday afternoon, with the Rebel men improving to 3-1 with a 176-118 victory, while the UNLV women (0-4) lost by a 186-114 score.
On the men's side, the Rebels completed a clean sweep of all 14 swimming events for the second time this season, dropping only the two diving events where they fielded no divers. Four different Rebels were double-event winners. Cody Roberts placed first in the 100 back (51.39) and the 100 fly (49.51), Giacomo Gremizzi won the 200 free (1:41.73) and the 200 IM (1:54.22), Steven Nelms claimed first in both sprint free events, wining the 50 free in 20.73 and the 100 free in 46.21, and Joe Riggert won the distance events, with times of 4:45.95 in the 500 free and 9:49.72 in the 1000 free.
Winning individual events was Andrew Morrell in the 100 breast (57.40), Balint Batka in the 200 fly (1:51.71), Chris Riley in the 200 back (1:52.63) and David Szele in the 200 breast (2:08.09). The Rebels claimed both relays, as Charlie Tapp, Szele, Roberts and Nelms swam a winning time of 1:30.99 in the 200 medley relay, while Bart Wanot, Roberts, Tapp and Nelms won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:04.08.
On the women's side, Jessica Heim was a double-event winner, taking first in the 500 free (5:06.08) and the 1000 free (10:35.63). Marley Prothero won the 200 breast in 2:22.31, Brittany Ozar was first in the 200 IM (2:10.87), and Mariah Skeen turned in a winning score of 294.38 on the 3-meter board.
Both teams return to action on Saturday at Utah in an 11 am (PT) meet.
