LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball senior outfielder Rance Roundy was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week following his stellar weekend play against the University of Maine Black Bears.
Roundy batted .412 on the weekend, going 8-for-19 from the plate, helping lead the Rebels to a four-game sweep over Maine. The Henderson, NV native and former Gatorade Player of the Year tallied four home runs and two doubles while collecting nine RBI and scoring nine times in the series.
Roundy's two-run homer in Friday night's game highlighted a 3-for-4, three RBI performance from the plate and marked the second straight season he had homered in the season-opening game.
He sparked a 10-run eighth inning in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with a two-run homer, helping lead the Rebels from five runs down to a 16-11 win.
Roundy and the Rebels will pick up action next weekend with a four-game set against Central Michigan University. Friday night's game is slated for a 6:05 p.m. start time at Wilson Stadium.
